Over the last 100 years, plastics have become an indispensable part of our lives. Like any material whose consumption increases, the use of plastics has led to plastic waste. Plastic waste can be recycled using many different techniques. While examining these recycling methods in this review study, the place of plastics recycling in the circular economy was also examined. The study searched the literature by searching for the keywords “circular economy” and “plastic” using the Google Academy search engine. It showed that existing techniques play an important role in the circular economy. However, it can be observed that countries that successfully implement the circular economy are also successful in recycling.

This study aims to develop recycling facilities using lean production tools. An exemplary plastic recycling facility was selected to carry out the study. First of all, the existing facility was analyzed and a layout plan was prepared. As a result of the initial analysis, important points that caused visible problems in the facility were identified. Machinery and personnel usage rates in the facility were analyzed with the Arena simulation program. As a result of all analyses, problems were identified. Then, U type production line, 5S, Kaizen etc. are implemented on the facility. An alternative model was created by making improvements with the tools and simulated with the same program. As a result, it was observed that both the number of personnel required decreased and the machine and personnel usage rates increased.
